BA LHAGANG
Description
Ba Lhagang is a small, but important town located in the Minyak Tibetan cultural region of Kham. In recent times it has become known for the Golden Stupa complex built by Dorjé Tashi, a reincarnate lama from the area. The Golden Stupa attracts tourists from throughout China and abroad, and serves as an administrative center for Dorjé Tashi’s various aid projects.
The films below were planned and filmed by students of the Xikang Tibetan Welfare School, as school for poor and orphaned children founded by Dorjé Tashi. Our Story tells the story of the Welfare School, and The Golden Stupa documents the monument that has come to define their town. The films were edited on-site by project facilitator Cecil Esquivel-Obregón with input from the students.
Made possible with the collaboration of Machik and generous support from The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation and Columbia University School of the Arts - Film Division
